How we vet advisors

A person checks every single one

  1. 1

    Registration, confirmed at the source

In Canada, anyone who advises on or sells securities must be registered with a provincial securities regulator. Before an advisor goes live, our team looks them up on the Canadian Securities Administrators’ National Registration Search and confirms the registration is active, matches their name and firm, and covers the provinces they serve.

  2. 2

    Disciplinary history, reviewed

For advisors at CIRO-regulated dealers, we also review CIRO AdvisorReport. Advisors with disciplinary history aren’t listed.

  3. 3

You’re matched on fit, not fees

Advisors list for free and we don’t take referral fees, so no one can pay to rank higher. Matches are based on what you need, where you live, your assets and how you want to pay.

  4. 4

    Check them yourself, too

We’d encourage it. Use the links above, ask any advisor how they’re paid, and get their fees in writing before you sign anything.

Verification reflects what public registries showed on the date we checked. It’s not an endorsement or a guarantee of an advisor’s performance or suitability for you. Something off with an advisor you met through The Peak List? Tell us and we’ll look into it.
